All Aboard! Gulf Breeze Zoo’s New Train Unveiled This Sunday -- and you won’t want to miss it.

Come early because the first 100 children will snag some great giveaways including a free train conductor hat, train whistle and of course, complimentary train ride. Celebratory cake will be served for all ages by the train station, so grab a piece while you soak up a fun photo opportunity.

The festivities begin at 9:30am and the very first inaugural train ride will depart the train station at 9:45am for the day. The train will run continuously throughout the day. Tickets are $3.50 per passenger and are sold at the zoo’s front desk and Café.

The Zoo’s new train is one of fewer than 400 to scale replicas made by Chance Rides of Wichita, Kansas. These rare trains are one-quarter-scale replicas of the original 1863 C.P. Huntington steam engine train purchased by the Central Pacific Railroad. The C.P. Huntington train was made famous during the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad in America, which connected unreachable territory between Council Bluffs, Iowa and Sacramento, California. This railway route provided reliable transportation to unsettled territory and enabled the American West to flourish. C.P Huntington trains and the construction of the infamous Transcontinental Railroad are the setting of the recently popular AMC television series Hell on Wheels
